What is a good, affordable acoustic guitar?

I am looking for an acoustic guitar for X-mas. I want an affordable one, but I also want one that is really excellent quality. Any suggestions?

Go to the Guitar Center and question the clerk to see the best that they have in your price range….spend a couple of hours in there and play all the guitars that are in your budget…and go from there…Gibson, Fenders, Les Paul’s, Taylor, Yamaha, Epiphone, Martin, I could go on and on, there are a lot of fantastic guitar brands out there today…you have to be the judge as to what sounds the best to your ears…. and what guitar has a excellent action for your fingers !!!!!!!! Just don’t order one without playing it first…..to me it’s better to go to a reputable guitar store and play them and then choose !!!!!!! Price doesn’t always make the best guitar, I bought one for $1500.00 and took it back after three weeks, there was something about the sound that I didn’t like….I got another one for half that price and liked it a lot better…so you never know. Well excellent luck to you !!!!!!

I really like my Yamaha FD02 I got for Christmas two years ago. It came from Costco of all places and was about $200 I reckon.

The fretboard has a nice feel, the frets are smooth and the intonation is excellent. The sound quality is surprisingly nice and warm on the low end and plenty bright on the high strings, and has decent sustain.

But most importantly, go to music stores and play the guitars, all of them if necessary. Get a feel for what you can get for the money and what you like the sound and feel of in your price range.

Unless you already know how to play a guitar pretty well, I suggest you don’t spend more than a few hundred bux. Treat yourself to the nice one later as a reward for your effort.
