Novice guitar players are always looking for very simple guitar tabs. That’s okay as long as you are aware that if you persevere with your guitar playing, your simple guitar tabs will start to get ancient. When we start off as guitar players we are enthusiastic and we want to learn to play songs straight away, from day one. We look for very simple guitar tabs as a way of quick tracking our progress as guitarists.

Once you have learnt to read guitar tabs, which, by the way, is nowhere near as hard as many people seem to reckon, you can be playing a few chords within half an hour. After a couple of weeks you are starting to see some progress with your chord changes and you start to look for simple songs in tab form. With half a dozen guitar tabs of simple songs you will have enough material to keep your practice sessions going for a month or so. After that, you will have passed the first stage of learning guitar and  you will be looking for challenges that simple guitar tabs no longer offer.

So that’s a rough scenario of what happens in the early stages of guitar playing. Now let’s look at what kind of songs you can find to start you off. Blink 182 and Greenday are well loved amongst new guitar players because of the simplicity of their songs. Brain Stew and Walking Contradiction are two Greenday songs that come to mind. Last Kiss by Pearljam, Highway To Hell by AC/DC, and Be Like That by 3 Doors Down are another couple of simple songs you will find tabs for.

Before I forget, let’s get back to some Blink 182 songs: All The Small Things, Whats My Ages Again and Dammit will be fine additions to your repertoire. Now my memory is turning, House Of The Rising Sun by The Animals and Seven Nation Army by White Stripes are two more very simple songs that are very simple to find tabs for. House Of The Rising Sun is fantastic if you are just starting out because it sounds excellent played on the acoustic guitar, as do Polly, Come As You Are, Rape me, Dumb and Pennyroyal Tea by Nirvana. The simplest song ever is another acoustic song, Horse With No Name by America.

Wild Thing by The Troggs is a fantastic song for playing on acoustic or electric guitar. Another fantastic thing is that you can also play the solo by whistling it if you do not have an ocarina.
