Although most of my videos are in the solo jazz guitar format, I am presenting a small series of of lead guitar videos – just for fun! This is a two chord progression, in D- and F- alternating. About the tone: I am first call for several Detroit smooth jazz artists and have done their recordings as well as their live gigs. I have learned that the contemporary smooth jazz guitar tone is different from the fuller, darker sound we reckon of as being the classic jazz guitar sound. Many of the finest smooth jazz guitarists really use solid bodies, have the tone control open and use quite a bit of compression – that’s the tone I’m going for here even though I’m using a jazz box (a 1973 Gibson ES-175 I owned since 1991).
