The Beatles Stereo CD Box Set was released in September it immediately became the standard for The Beatles albums. These new stereo mixes sound far better than the ancient discs from the late 80s. When comparing these new remasters to the older discs it’s like the older CDs are under a pile of wet towels while the new remastered CDs sound crystal clear so that all of the instrumentation and vocals push through the mixes instead of being muffled.

The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set isn’t the only Beatles box set that came out in September of ’09 but it has been the largest seller since it appeals to the widest range of Beatles fans. The Beatles Mono Box Set is brilliant too but it appeals mostly to purists who want to hear the 1960s mono mixes (because that’s how most fans in the 1960s heard this music) than to the average fan. Although there are certainly songs that sound better in mono than in stereo (especially quite a few of the pre 1968 songs in my opinion) overall I believe the stereo set does sound the best.

The fantastic thing about The Remastered Beatles in Stereo Box Set is that it lets you to get The Beatles entire 60s catalog with just one order and when one considers the high quality of most of their LPs, it makes the most sense to order them all at once instead of picking up some and then getting more later.

Beyond the fantastic ground breaking music included in this set there are some groovy visual elements, the 13 mini documentary (for each studio album) DVD is the most obvious. Along with the mini documentary DVD there are extensive liner notes for every CD (there’s some excellent information in these notes, particularly for new fans) and some fantastic unpublished photos.

I am such a huge Beatles fanatic that I’ve ordered (or am plotting on getting) The Beatles Stereo Box, The Beatles Mono Box, The Beatles USB Memory Stick, and The Beatles Rock Band Game. But if I had to pick just one of these things, it would be the stereo set because it is the best way to hear their music and after all, it is the classic songs that made them the most well loved band ever.
