just answered one like this
ONLY IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GUITAR DO THIS:
now, learn your basic strings E,a,d,g,b,e then later you can move to different tuned strings
learn different things, go for basic stuff and then move from there. KNOW YOUR GUITARS learn parts of it, and try and get a good quality amp. when you play dont expect it to be good---keep on practicing
ultimate guitar and 911 tabs are 2 good sites, however you can simply look up guitar training or beginner guitar help on google/yahoo and look at that. POWERTAB!!!! download powertab, its free and works pretty well, however you might have to wait in begining cause it might not read the tabs you download at first i had to wait maybe 2 weeks before i can do it quickly(before i had 50% chance of getting saved and played) i know sounds crappy but give it time
OR you can buy GUITARPRO i think around 50$ try the demo
explanation: guitarpro and powertab are programs that allow you download certain tabs from sites that give the option (ultimate guitar for sure)

well if you already play an acoustic guitar
its the same except you plug it into an amp
but if you don't play
you need to take lessons or get a kit that you can teach yourself

Learning to play an instrument requires some dedication, you will have to practice and find something that will keep you going. Get a chord book and learn some basic chords then learn to play your favorite bands songs, as you progress and get used to having the instrument in your hands it will get easier and you will look for more challenging songs to learn, eventually you will start writing your own.
Practice, practice and practice.
