I loved what u played. Could u tell me what it means when in a Tab they write GUITAR PASS- what does pass mean here?
Thanks,
Newbie Guitarist
excellent lesson and excellent advice too…keep it up!
I´m writing from Venezuela…
Really a excellent explaining
Really excellent Work
man, this was a excellent video! and i’ll bet tim agrees to!
@skint0n0minted Yeah but if you know your theory, it makes it simpler to know and convey the emotions you feel. Say you wanted to show a dark and dreary mood. Locrian would work perfectly, and you would have a place to start.
I have been playing guitar for 7 years, touring for 5 and have thousands of hours of glide time (live play time) and haven’t really experimented with this. Very cool small tip that I am kinda kicking myself for not thinking of myself.
One of the best teachers I have ever witnessed!
your amusing at the same time
tnx…
yo man as a fellow guitarist your metlod and explanation of why those licks and riffs are so peaceful and harmonious. you did a really excellent job of explaining the way different guitarist and instrumentalists for that matter learn to opperate in unique styles, using music theory and or learning it by ear.
Rock on Man and Keep it real
scales and modes are a waste of time!
use you eaaaaaaaars thats what musics about.
excellent lesson & right abut the music theory part. a small will go a long ways.
for sure. i took a guitar theory class after playing for a few months.. after taking the class i have a lot more understanding of music. i still go by feel, but when i dont know where to go, i pull out the theory and it helps a lot.
your videos help me more than any other instructional video. everytime i watch one of your videos i get a light that turns on in my head. keep the videos comin!
very cool lesson, David. I am definately going to use this technique from this point forward. Thanks.
you can play a minor pentatonic form with a major key. just take the root note of that major key and drop a minor 3rd (3 frets down from root.) now you’ve found the root note of the relative minor of your original key. if you’re starting with the root note, you’re playing a G-form pentatonic scale which is the most well loved. there are 5 pentatonic forms / shapes for any key just like there are 5 notes in the pentatonic scale: CAGED- root=G form, b3=E, 4=D, 5=C, b7=A form. peace.
He’s excellent at explaining and doesn’t bore you because he plays often
thanks a LOT, i knew of music theory a lot, but now i’m learning guitars, and with a metal tune now i can get this pentatonic sound that i wanted… thanks a lot for this video… (yeah, i was trying some deathlish-blues style on guitars, i knew about other instruments but in guitars i’m a newbie, your videos really help me a lot)
Lol @ him struggling to speak @ 2:58 (fantastic lesson btw)
music theory isnt that hard and it elps u a ton, trust me
thanx so much – helped me go outside the box. I’ve had enough theory training to know how to vamp within the box, but your brain gets so programmed by sticking in the scale. This lesson helped a lot. ROCK ON
Excellent point on knowing some theory! It’s really vital indeed.
