Remove the strings from your guitar. Play a song from an artist you like and, moving your hand up and down, pretend you are strumming.

You can learn to play a few songs without a great deal of effort. However, mastering the guitar is another story entirely. If you want to be proficient (and professional), you need to learn all the scales, all the chords, all the tunings, the circle of fifths, and so on. Needless to say this takes 2 hours a day or more. Music is unlike painting. In painting you learn a technique and without using it in years you can come back and pick up where you left off. With music your fingers forget what to do after just a few days of not practicing.
